After growing up a Dutch boy, I came to the U. S. for graduate school. I have been in DC for a while now and love the city. I gave up some of my Dutch habits, but there's some left: all European-like, I am still non-religious, progressive, and cosmopolitan. I still bike to work without a helmet. Beyond that, I’ve Americanized a bit: I do brunch, lost most of my accent, and my caffeinated drink order has a multitude of adjectives. Physically, the aficionado would still recognize me as Dutch: tall, lean, yet more muscular now that I work out religiously (I have a better body now than I did in my 20s—and wow do I enjoy THAT). When my hair started thinning (also very Dutch), I figured there is only one way to deal with that graciously, so I shaved it all off. To “balance the face” (as one of my friends observed), I have a short blond beard. Beyond the superficial, I am husband material: honest, sensitive, open minded, patient, forgiving and fiercely loyal. I’m looking for good conversation, real emotional connection, good punctuation (use a semicolon once in a while!), interest in the very large (cosmology?) and the very small (strings?), the audio (Palestrina?) and the visual (Holbein?), the old (bimetallism?) and the new (my Audi?). Sexually, I am a bottom who enjoys the well endowed and more aggressive man (you know who you are). Balance that with unlikely intelligence, fearless honesty, surprising emotional balance and a reasonable professional life, and you might just see me smitten before long.
